I always felt a strong affinity to my last name and my ancestors. I always felt like, well, my dad is watching me. Andrew? I have the last name Tate, and I have responsibilities to live up to the last name Tate. I understood I had to work hard and I had a duty to my last name. My duty is ongoing. I don't think my duty will ever be complete.
He prepared me for a very difficult life.
to be prepared for all eventualities of life. My dad used to just randomly push me over. Get up, boy. Okay. And mom would be like, why are you doing that, son? He's like, you get pushed over, that's life. He understood what the world expects of men.
And he raised us to be strong.
But that's propelled me to the massive success I currently enjoy. It served me very well. I'm happy I had that expectation. I would change nothing about my childhood. When you are a man, life is exceptionally difficult. And if you're not prepared for that, you're always going to suffer. You're either going to suffer the pain that it takes to be important, or you're going to suffer being a nobody.
that my body is i believe that life the purpose of it is to learn and it is to struggle and it is to suffer i think that if you want to be any kind of man of caliber life needs to be full of suffering that's life that's life as a man you get pushed over and you just got to get up you look at struggles and you look at problems and you want to overcome them that's the reality of
gonna be it. It's inside of us.
if you don't have that story of pain.
and you don't have a story at all.
We learn through pain and suffering, which is why God gives it to us. Because God is here to teach us. God is like a father, and a father teaches you through pain.
My father built me to be this man, so I have a duty to take. If you're not dutiful, if you don't believe in putting honor in your last name, if you don't want to be physically and mentally strong, if you don't believe in having a difficult life, if you stray from this, all you end up with is misery.
I don't think I could have possibly ever had a better father. A lot of the things I regurgitate are from him. A lot of the things I say he literally said to me line for line.
He was my superhero. I'm gonna miss him forever. I'm always gonna miss him. And I think the best thing I can do is be the best version of myself to give honor and respect to him. If you're a child out here, you need to do the same for your father. If he doesn't inspire you, then you need to become somebody that's so amazing that your children are inspired by you. I think a man has a duty to his last name. I am a Tate.
I am my father's son. You ain't never too big for daddy. I got nothing but baby. The reason my father is disgust so heavily is because of my monumental success.
I keep him alive via my success.
I would love to think my son does the same thing.
And he wanted me to understand that he will not be here forever.
and he wanted me to understand that when he was gone I had a duty to fulfill.
He's talking about how I have to carry the family torch. He's talking about the fact that I need to evolve and be a better version of him. I'm really so thankful I had the upbringing I had.
Do you think he's proud of you? I'm certain he's proud of me.
And it's amazing how much strength I can get from that.
